october rain and it's cool out, all denim jackets and first leaves giving way to the weight of wind and water scattering the lawn. everything stubborn and green speckled with gold and amber. shoes in the shallow puddles and gray sky hanging low above hats and tousled hair. hands shoved in pockets. paper mache pumpkins and fragrant candles lit in the small house. rich warm foods carried back in bags for under blankets. and it's quiet. on the streets and in doors. all so quiet. and knowing. all except for the soft music. still knowing.
